Meghan Hennessey, M.S. is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Battle Buddies Therapy Dogs, where she is dedicated to strengthening the bond between people and dogs while improving the lives of veterans, first responders, and individuals in need through highly trained therapy and service dogs. She earned a Master of Science in Veterinary Medical Sciences with a concentration in Shelter Medicine from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and also holds a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Florida. Meghan previously served as a college professor, teaching Zoology, Entomology, Vertebrate Comparative Anatomy, Invertebrate Zoology, and Evolution, where she combined her passion for science with a commitment to education and mentorship.
With more than 15 years of experience in canine behavior, training, animal welfare, and nonprofit leadership, Meghan has worked extensively in shelter medicine, behavior modification, enrichment, and the development of evidence-based training programs. She has designed educational curricula for animal care professionals, developed positive reinforcement training programs for therapy, service, and search-and-rescue dogs, and has led initiatives focused on improving animal welfare and increasing community access to canine-assisted support services. Her expertise spans canine behavior, shelter operations, veterinary medical science, nonprofit management, volunteer development, and public education.
As CEO of Battle Buddies Therapy Dogs, Meghan oversees the organization's strategic vision, program development, volunteer training, and community partnerships while remaining actively involved in dog training and client support. Her mission is to ensure that every veteran and individual served by the organization has access to compassionate, professional, and scientifically informed canine-assisted services that foster healing, resilience, and hope.
